I am a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at MIT, and a member of the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). My research focuses on artificial intelligence, machine learning, and their applications to scientific discovery.
Prior to joining MIT, I was an Assistant Professor at Stanford University (2010-2015) and received my Ph.D. from Carnegie Mellon University in 2009. I am a recipient of the MacArthur Fellowship (2018), NSF CAREER Award (2016), and Sloan Research Fellowship (2017).
My research group develops new machine learning methods to solve fundamental problems in science and engineering. We are particularly interested in:
I currently advise 8 Ph.D. students and 2 postdoctoral associates. Prospective students should apply through the MIT EECS graduate program.
